Hello

I'm Micah McCants, a Music Education student at the University of the Virgin Islands, heading into my fourth year. These days, life is a balancing act between classes, rehearsals, performances, running a small business, and learning how to navigate adulthood one step at a time.

My Story

My musical journey began at age five when I started learning piano. Two years later, I picked up the cello and quickly fell in love with its rich, expressive sound. What started as childhood music lessons soon became a lifelong passion that would shape much of who I am today.

Growing up in South Florida, I had the opportunity to study and perform with organizations such as the South Florida Youth Symphony and Miami Music Project. These experiences provided a strong classical foundation while teaching me the value of discipline, teamwork, and artistic expression. During my time with the South Florida Youth Symphony, our orchestra earned the prestigious Gold Standard Award and had the honor of performing in Washington, D.C. during the 2017 Presidential Inauguration festivities.
After moving to the U.S. Virgin Islands, I was able to reconnect with my family's Caribbean roots while continuing to grow as both a musician and educator. Today, I am pursuing a degree in Music Education at the University of the Virgin Islands, where I continue to develop my skills as a performer, teacher, and lifelong student of music.

My performance experience spans a variety of settings, from weddings and private events to orchestral and ensemble performances. I currently perform with the VI–Puerto Rico Friendship Orchestra and have performed with the UVI Jazz Ensemble on bass guitar, experiences that have expanded my appreciation for many different styles of music and performance.

Teaching has also become an important part of my journey. I enjoy helping young musicians discover their own love for music and develop the confidence that comes from learning a new skill. Watching students grow reminds me of why I first fell in love with music myself.

At the heart of everything I do is a belief that music brings people together. Whether I'm performing for a couple on their wedding day, collaborating with fellow musicians, or working with students, my goal is always the same: to create meaningful experiences through music and genuine human connection.
