MICAH MCCANTS
Hi, I am Micah Aaron McCants, a passionate cellist, growing educator, and performer based in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Originally from Florida, I moved to the Virgin Islands five years ago, reconnecting with the island roots that have shaped so much of my life and artistry. I began my musical journey at the age of 5 on the piano and soon after fell in love with the cello at age 7. I studied with two incredible orchestras in South Florida, South Florida Youth Symphony and Miami Music Project, where I built a solid classical foundation and developed a deep appreciation for ensemble playing. During my time with SFYS, our orchestra earned the prestigious Gold Standard Award while performing in Washington DC. during the 2017 presidential inauguration.

Today, I'm a music education major at the University of the Virgin Islands, where I continue to grow as both a performer and teacher. My performance experience spans solo cello at weddings and events, as well as ensemble work with UVI's Jazz Band (on electric bass) and the VI - Puerto Rico Friendship Orchestra (on cello) during their annual Christmas concerts.

Teaching has been a part of my journey since age 15, when I began offering beginner piano lessons at G-clef Music Academy. That experience led to my position as a teaching artist in their Partners for Strings program, where I taught for nearly two years before heading to university. I now specialize in cello instruction for children ages 7 and up.

As a Musician, I believe music is more than notes and rhythm; it's a tool for transformation. When a child picks up a violin, they're far less likely to pick up a gun. When they find their voice through music, they're far less likely to lose themselves in drugs or violence. I've seen firsthand in my own life how music instills discipline, confidence, and purpose, especially in the younger generation.

What sets me apart is my ability to connect with both students and audiences through a strong foundation in classical training and a genuine, personal approach. Whether I’m performing at a wedding or guiding a student through their first scale, I bring warmth, flexibility, and heart to every interaction.
When I’m not teaching or performing, you’ll usually find me at the beach or studying hard as I work toward completing my music education degree.
